About Department of Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering Department of Nowgong Polytechnic, Nagaon started its Diploma course in the year 1965 with the intake of 30 numbers. Then later it was increased to 60 numbers up to 1994. But from 1995 the intake was 40 after it was made compulsory to be affiliated under AICTE, New Delhi. Nowgong Polytechnic is under SCTE (Sate Council for Technical Education), DTE(Directorate of Technical Education),  Govt. of Assam.

The Mechanical Engineering Department is having the support of highly qualified faculty. The department have the laboratories  like Engineering Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics and Fluid Machine, Strength of Material  , Heat Engine, Automobile Engineering, Refrigeration and Air  conditioning, CNC including the Workshop. So, the students get all the facility to perform the Experiments in the respective Subjects.

Facilites present in the department Library

In addition to the main library of the Institution the Mechanical Department also has a Departmental Library from which the students can collect the books of their requirement and availability. But the preference is given to the financially weak/SC/ST students.

Computer Centre

The Mechanical Department has also a Computer Centre in which both staff and the students can avail the net facility and can search and download the study materials.

Status of Alumni

All over the years the pass out student of the Mechanical Engineering Department is spreading all over the country as well as in some of the countries across the globe. In state the alumni from the Mechanical Engineering Department is selected by APSC (Assam Public Service Commission)  and appointed by   the major  Govt. department like APWD, Irrigation, PHE, Health &  FW , IWT etc. including the state owned agencies like APDCL, AEGCL, ASTC etc. Some of the brilliant students are already serving in the oil sector like OIL, ONGC and IOCL.

The students are also being selected through SSC exams conducted by UPSC for different Central Govt. Departments like Indian Railways, BRO, EME of MoD, CPWD etc.

Present Placement Scenario

For the last 10 years the major campus recruiter are Marico India Pvt. Ltd, Cummins India , Apollo Tyres, Mando India, Simplex Infra Structure, Tractors India Pvt Ltd., ITC Foods Pvt. Ltd. , Essel Propak , Burckhardt Compression (India) Pvt. Ltd. etc.

Higher Studies and Entrepreneurship

In addition to the employment some of the students go for completing the higher studies like B.Tech. then M. Tech and Ph D etc. The statistics shows that the tendency of going for higher studies is going on increasing nowadays which helps them to prepare for their different competitive examinations too.

Some of the students also have opted for entrepreneurship also. Majority of the pass out students have brought loral to the department as well as to the Nowgong Polytechnic.
